THE COMBINED SERVICES PLASTIC SURGERY SOCIETY MEETING 28-29th November 2024
General Information
1. The Combined Services Plastic Surgery Society annual meeting will be taking place on Thursday 28th November 2024. The venue for the conference this year is HMS Sultan, Gosport and the Cadre dinner night will take place at the Institute of Naval Medicine, Gosport.
2. The theme and focus for this year is ‘Burns and Disaster Relief Surgery’, particularly focusing on the management of major incidents, burns surgery and the role of the plastic surgeon in medical disasters, whether military or civilian.
3. For serving members of the Cadre, there will be military academic and cadre update day will take place on Friday 29th November 2024 at HMS Sultan and will be for military personnel only.
The Academic Day
4. A full academic day will be held on Thursday 28th November. As well as a number of invited speakers on the subject of Burns and Disaster Relief Surgery, DMS trainees will provide podium talks (8 minutes) to delegates.
5. Abstracts are invited from all those attending the meeting.
a. Trainees of all levels (pre-FRCS, Post-FRCS and Pre-CST) who aspire to a Defence NTN in Burns and Plastic Surgery, or who hold an NTN in Burns and Plastic Surgery, are expected to submit an abstract.
b. Other interested medical personnel are also welcome to submit abstracts.
c. We would particularly like to see some presentations from the Nursing cadre and Reservists
The deadline for abstract submission is 4th October 2024. ‘Abstracts from trainees on quality improvement projects, clinical and basic science research are encouraged. Abstracts/work need not be on the theme of the meeting, but should reflect work undertaken by the trainee’ Abstracts should be 140 words with title, author(s) and main body of abstract. 6. Registration for the Academic day will start at 0800hrs on November 28th. The meeting will start promptly at 0830hrs and finish at 1630hrs. A detailed programme for the day to follow in due course.
Regimental Mess Dinner Night
6. The academic day will be followed by a Regimental Mess dinner night at the Institute of Naval Medicine, Gosport, with reception drinks from 1830hrs and the dinner commencing at 1900hrs. Please use the online form below to submit your attendance and dietary requirements. Unfortunately, there is a limit to the number of personnel who can be accommodated at the dinner night venue. The priority for this event will be cadre members and guest speakers, however we hope we can accommodate all who wish to attend. If you are not a cadre member or guest speaker, and wish to attend, please still complete the form below and you will be contacted soon after the deadline for submission to confirm whether there is availability for the event.
7. Transport will be arranged to transport personnel from HMS Sultan to the Institute of Naval Medicine, if requested in advance (see booking form below).
Trainee Day
8. The trainee day will take place on Friday 29th November at HMS Sultan for service personnel only.
9. A briefing by the Defence Consultant Advisor, Lt Col Lawton, to all military members of the cadre (regular and reservist, trainee or consultant, medical and nursing cadre members) will take place on the Friday morning, followed by other military specific presentations, which will be confirmed closer to the date.
10.This is a mandatory event for all military members. Please email the DCA (Lt Col Lawton) directly should you be unable to attend.
11.Trainee Interviews will also take place on the Friday morning. Please confirm your attendance and interview request via the booking link below.
Accommodation
12.Service accommodation provision for service personnel can only be confirmed 6 weeks prior to the event. In the event of non-availability, you will be updated with a non-availability chit to give to your unit for alternative accommodation to be arranged. Please see the booking form below for accommodation requests.
Event Registration and Booking
13.The registration fee for the Thursday academic day is £15, for the Regimental dinner £55, or £70 for both. The junior ranks will not pay for the academic day, only paying for the Regimental dinner at a cost of £55.

16. Travel and Subsistence is arranged through your own unit.
Dress
17. Dress for the academic meeting will be barrack dress for delegates and service dress equivalent for presenters. Civilian delegates should wear a lounge suit or equivalent for the academic day.
18.The dress code for the Regimental Dinner is Mess Dress, with miniatures, (or equivalent suit) for serving military personnel or black tie/gowns or equivalent dress for civilians.
